Minimalism
Minimalism is about reducing distractions by letting go of clutter in your life.
Here, I will share my journey of decluttering the crap in my life, and only own items that bring me joy, in the pursuit of living a minimalist lifestyle!
Month 1: Mass Purge
August 2024
My first month of adopting a minimalist approach to my lifestyle wrecked my entire room. On a supposedly chill Saturday, I decided to sell almost ALL my room furniture.I own a lot of things, and I believe my room is not large enough to accomodate such items. I also owned way too much tables and cabinets, and a large, overkill wardrobe. Plus, all those furniture items were of different colours, so it made my room look random, messy, claustrophobic. The space was looking very tight. So, my goal for my room is:
Limited furniture ( 1 bed, 1 wardrobe, 1 cabinet, 1 table ).
Minimise space taken by furniture.
Large, empty space in the centre of the room.
By designing my room to have smaller and less furniture, I am forcing myself to reduce the things I own.
Problems
I own many essential stuff.
What do I define by essential? To me, essential means:
Does it bring me joy?
Is it an investment?
If someone hid it away for 4 weeks, would I be looking for it?
I own many essentials: my camera equipment and keyboards.
It was really tough choosing what to keep, and what to sell. But, when I refer to my "essential" rules, most of my camera equipment answers YES. I work a bit of freelance, and I will be needing my equipment.
As for my keyboard hobby; I could agree that, I don't need that many keyboards. One is already enough. Paired with the fact I'm busy working now, and probably don't have time to build my own, I am selling away my parts and tools, and only keeping my favourite (and rare) Mekanisk Fjell.
